Day 7. Friday October 7th - Simpson to Simpson

FRIDAY Oct 7th –

SIMPSON CAMP ONE to SOMEWHERE NEAR EYRE CREEK (QAA line)

Up early after viewing the sunrise from the comfort of the tent.
Sunrising through tent window.

Reve had almost started the fire and we started to stoke it up for bacon and eggs all round.

We knew it would warm up early so the plan was to try and cook and pack up in the cool of the morning before taking off, to cross the Eyre Creek.

After breaky we noticed a mob of emus passing through our camp, come to check out what the humans were up to.

Closer view, not sure who was checking out who.

Eyre creek near where we camped, but no longer the place to cross.

About 1km from camp we viewed the creek, at a crossing place that was no longer passable due the rains and floods. After a 30 odd kilometre detour and several views of a very full Eyre Creek. Kerri had her first experience of desert 4wdriving and did an excellent job with Ska, driving along the creek, through a range of territory.
view driving along the detour and back nearer the creek.
We came to the designated crossing spot, which was incredibly easy, considering the amount of water in other sections of the creek.

Entering the real Simpson Desert NP
Here we all are entering the National Park.
After the crossing, we travelled a little further to a single tree with a a bit of shade for lunch, then on over many dunes, to a very nice campsite at Georgina gidgee area, which was a bit of a claypan with some Gidgee trees. After some post set up drinks and nibblies Ro decided to take on the many Black Kites that circle above everywhere we go. Ro broke out his kite and did some flying in the strong winds that were happening as we set up camp.

Another Green Birdflower

and again
Some threatening clouds produced about 4 drops of rain and the night then became still and quiet. “ Ahh the serenity” (quote Megan Walsh) until the arrival of another little local – a long haired rat – dubbed “snausage” as he was attracted to the pan used for the sausages. Snausage became a bit of a pet, running around under the chairs etc and partaking of some of Reve’s ‘cowboy’
Sunsetting amongst some greyish clouds.
Dad and Ro and Kerri cooked up an excellent feed of curried snags followed by some chocolates, cowboys and once again the tokay and fine scotch.

Curried snags and a glass of Sauv Blanc...life's good.

memory serves me correctly.

Following the cook up is the inevitable clean up.

Here is Snausage hooking into Reve's Cowboy dregs.

A little cutey really.
