Day 13. Thursday 13th October. MT DARE TO COOBER PEDY

Thursday October 13th – MT DARE TO COOBER PEDY

Up early to get the moon setting and sunrise shots. Beautiful as always.

Sun rising over the tree, we camped under last year.

A trio of Crested Pigeons
With the car and group photo sorted out in front of the Mt Dare Hotel, we proceeded down the track towards Oodnadatta.
the group shot prior to departure.

There were a few landmarks along the way to stop and check out, despite a rather long day ahead with approx. 500kms to CP.
We checked out Eringa Waterhole, Bloods Creek Windmill, Eringa ruins and other bits along the way.

One for Sarah - who wasn't able to make the trip this year.
Cathy and Mike had a bit more car trouble, but nothing a rest under the shade of a tree didn’t sort out... initially.
The Overland Telegraph Line's Angle Post, marking
the spot where it changed direction.
On the way we passed through Oodnadatta and had icecreams at the Pink roadhouse, Steve caught up with his mate Aldo from work.

No wonder Mike and Cathy were having car trouble...we were in the
middle of the country in the hottest and driest town.

A Wedge Tailed Eagle in a tree.

18 kms from Coober Pedy, she gave up the ghost...bonnet off again.
It was a rather hot and windy day, and somewhat further down the track (about 18kms short of Coober Pedy) the Pajero was a no go...the solution was to remove the bonnet and proceed with it strapped to the roof...it seemed to assist with the cooling component and we made it into Coober Pedy to camp at the Oasis Caravan Park, not too bad, nice and close to camp kitchen and facilities.
Sunset over Coober Pedy from the Caravan Park fence.

We walked down the street for our, now mandatory, tea at John’s Pizza, which was enjoyed by all.

Back to tents for a good nights sleep, to the sounds of dogs fighting, a fair old wind gust and some of the ‘locals’ having a bit of a party and fight just beside the fence of the caravan park.
